My acne was only skin deep. My skin won’t stop me because beauty is both inside and out. I believe that no one can define us, unless we allow them to. While growing up as a teenager, I suffered from moderate acne and it made me feel very insecure and embarrassed. I think it made me so insecure that many of my classmates and peers thought that I was shy, not knowing the pain that went along with it. There were many jokes and whispers that occasionally you would catch from others when they thought you didn’t hear… I still remember one of my so-called male friends talking to another guy saying “She’s a 15 footer…”, not knowing what that meant. I finally asked what that meant and was told that up close, not so good looking!! I was hurt by those types of comments and they stay with you for a long time, even after the acne heals. I know Eben through my daughter Sara and I can tell you that she is a beautiful person both inside and out… and I feel her pain! That being said I can connect with her insecurities about self-image. Stay strong Eben and I wish you all good things and never let your skin stop you!

I’m feeling a sense of sadness when I look around to watch some of my friends caring for their ageing parents. We all say, at one time or another, that we hope to live to be 100, but do we really mean that and do we really know what it might entail?? Many elderly are fortunate to be able to stay in fairly good health and live in their own homes independently, but some are far less fortunate and end up needing help and a place to be cared for. This means being prepared both monetarily and emotionally. I guess what I have learned from observing my many friends going through this is to be prepared for long term care and pray that God willing that they won’t need to use it! We all need to value our parents as they age, for the love and wisdom they share, and be there for them when they need us.

I just wanted to comment on how the weather can affect our moods. I am so happy to finally be digging out of the longest winter in history… I might be stretching that a bit, but I’m just saying that it’s almost over!!!! I notice that when the sun is out, it gives me such energy and drive for the day! So, shine on and have a great day!! Anyone also notice how that little yellow ball makes all the difference in their mood??
I recently started an exercise routine where I’m weight training and doing some walking too, as I am aware how important it is to have strong bones and muscles as we age. Being in my 50’s and just starting out, I am surprised at the fact that I’m actually enjoying doing it!! I’ve never been much for going to the gym, but once again if you push yourself out of your comfort zone, you just might find that it’s something both fun and rewarding! Any other ideas to get stronger?? I was thinking of riding my bike a bit more once the weather improves. Let me know your thoughts or suggestions

Does anyone have any recommendations as to where I can find affordable artwork and possibly a mirror and sconces for my family room? I would like to stay with earth tones. I live near Erie, PA, but don’t mind ordering from somewhere online. I checked Kirklands, but they didn’t have a lot to offer and the closest one is about 80 miles away :/ !!

Becoming a grandparent is one of the most wonderful events that can happen to you in your lifetime. No one can describe the joy that having a grandchild brings to your life. You think you might know how its going to feel but it is quite different than becoming a parent. The excitement of seeing your child becoming a parent is also so gratifying and heartwarming. There’s nothing better!!

Having the winter blues?? Well, I was… so why not take on a fixer-upper without spending a fortune!! I decided to refresh my kitchen. First, I painted (well I hired painters) to renew my old oak cabinets by using an antique finish… eggshell paint with mocha trim border. They turned out great and made the kitchen feel twice its size! Secondly, I purchased new hardware for the cabinets going from old gold to oil rubbed bronze with copper trim. Then, I bought new valances keeping in the brown/beige tones. And finally, I had a new oil rubbed bronze faucet installed (thanks to my son). The total cost for this refresh was less than $1,500 and I am so pleased! Here’s my before and after… I hope this has inspired someone to take a chance and make a change. You’ll love it!!
